If you are arrested and convicted of DWI in Texas, you may still be able to request an occupational driver’s license (ODL) to permit you to make a living. An ODL is a restricted driver’s license issued to individuals who have had their licenses suspended or revoked.
Alexander & Associates represents individuals in ODL hearings. We have offices in Frisco, Denton, Colleyville and Lewisville and are prepared to request a restrictive ODL on your behalf.
As a former prosecutor, attorney Karen Alexander understands how to present your request for an ODL to the court. She uses her prosecutorial background to protect your rights and present your request to the court in the most favorable manner.

We have extensive experience handling occupational driver’s license requests for individuals with suspended or revoked driver’s licenses due to a DUI / DWI.
In many cases, if an ODL is granted, you will be required to install an ignition interlock device that you must blow into before driving to ensure your blood alcohol does not exceed prescribed limits. If the device estimates your blood alcohol level to be higher than allowed, you will not be able to start your car. This is an expense you may be able to avoid.
To obtain an occupational driver’s license (ODL), you must petition the court and ask the judge to grant an ODL. You must demonstrate to the court why an ODL is needed, such as picking up and dropping off children or going to medical appointments or work.
An experienced attorney can often persuade the court to grant an ODL that might not otherwise be granted.
For additional information about whether you qualify for an occupational driver’s license, schedule a confidential consultation with ODL lawyer Karen Alexander by calling us at 972-420-6570 (Frisco office), 972-420-6560 (Lewisville office) or 817-756-4040 (Colleyville office). If you prefer, fill out our intake form and we will contact you to schedule a consultation.
Remember, you only have 15 days from the date of your arrest to request an ALR hearing to retain your driving privileges; otherwise, your license will automatically be suspended.
